The project will be piloted in 2021-2022 in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in Belgorod, Kurgan, Omsk, Orenburg and Tambov regions, and in Sevastopol. New Reality. Development.» For the first time in a while, the event was held offline at the Sechenov Medical University. Current Trends in Nursing Service Management The conference «Anti-crisis Strategies for Nursing Service Management» discussed international guidance and current trends in nursing practice and education, lessons learned by nursing services during the COVID-19 pandemic, knowledge and skills that nurses urgently need today, reasons why safety must be taken seriously, and much more. NEWS FROM HEALTH WORKER ORGANISATIONS UNION This column covers the work of Russia’s largest professional association of nurses. Established in 2015, the Union of Health Worker Organizations brings together 170,000 medics from 35 professional associations. Awards and Diplomas for 49 Contest Participants «Point of View,» a competition of social advertising and communication projects, was held for the fourth time, organized by the Sverdlovsk Regional Medical College with support from the Sverdlovsk Regional Ministry of Health and the regional Association of Nurses. Preventing Falls and Injuries in Seniors On May 20-21, the Fifth All-Russian Congress of Gerontologists and Geriatricians «Preventing Falls - Saving Lives» was held in Moscow with international participation. Nurses at Forefront of Innovation In late spring, Samara hosted the largest nationwide educational event for nurses – the Second All-Russian School of Advanced Nursing Technologies «Nurses at Forefront of Innovation.» Innovation in Ambulance Service In 2018, a joint disaster and emergency service was set up in Chuvashia, operated from a single call-center. All operational and dispatcher personnel’s workplaces are computerized and equipped with caller ID and call recording features. RUSSIAN REGIONS Proud of My Profession The Board of the Trans-Baikalian Health Worker Association, jointly with the Trans-Baikalia Ministry of Health, held a contest for nurses «Proud of My Profession,» designed to enhance nurse training outcomes and to improve the competitiveness, recognition and prestige of the nursing profession. CONTINUING TRAINING Conferences: Trends and New Formats Conferences play an increasingly important role in practicing nurses’ professional development. Recently, the often-boring conventional presentation-based conferences have been giving way to new, more interactive approaches, some of which are discussed in this article. PREVENTION OF HEALTHCARE-ASSOCIATED INFECTIONS Handwashing Audit Guidelines The National Association of Infection Control Specialists has issued guidelines for conducting handwashing audits to examine barriers to handwashing compliance by healthcare workers. New Hand Hygiene and Patient Skin Decontamination Standards The article provides an overview of the newly adopted epidemiological standards concerning handwashing and skin hygiene and related requirements for the antiseptics and their properties. LESSONS LEARNED Visiting Nurse Service Operation: Lessons Learned In 2018, Maximilianovskaya City Hospital No. 28 in St. Petersburg serving three central districts of the city with a population of 600,000 started offering a visiting nurse service for non-cancer patients. This article is a review of the service’s three years of operation. Role of Nurses in Caring for Patients after Transthoracic Biopsy Since 2007, the Regional Clinical Oncology Center in Samara has extensively used the method of transthoracic lung biopsy. This article discusses the method’s advantages, indications and contraindications, possible complications, and the procedures nurses should follow before and after the intervention. USEFUL KNOWLEDGE FOR NURSES Medical Uses of Silver Since ancient times, women and men have not only adorned themselves with silver jewelry but also used the precious metal for medicinal purposes. Medics today also recognize the properties of silver as a disinfectant which can be used to purify water and applied to infected wounds as a bactericidal agent which does not cause allergies but can improve immunity.
