New Wage System Piloted: Role for Unions
This summer, a new wage system will be piloted in seven Russian regions. A presidential grant has been
made available to the Health Workers’ Union in appreciation and support of its role of safeguarding health
workers’ rights under the new system. In turn, the Union set up a task force for monitoring the situation.

XIX CONGRESS OF RUSSIAN PEDIATRICIANS
Pediatrics Today: Progress and Challenges
On March 5-7, Moscow hosted the XIX Congress of Russian Pediatricians. Its agenda featured discussions
of the connection between a child’s health and social circumstances, challenges faced by school medicine,
childhood disability, pediatric training, availability of medicines for patients with rare and orphan diseases,
and other topics. One of the highlights was the XII Forum of Pediatric Nurses held as part of the Congress.
NEWS FROM HEALTH WORKER ORGANISATIONS UNION
This column is about the work of Russia’s largest professional association of nurses. Established in 2015, the
Union of Health Worker Organisations brings together 170,000 medics from 35 professional associations.
Outlook on Physical Culture Education
The Ural Pedagogical University hosted a conference «Current aspects of education in the areas of physical
culture, health and safety, and biology,» attended by more than 30 educational partners, including the
Sverdlovsk Base Medical College.
«Hunting Hedgehogs» Business Game
The Sverdlovsk Base Medical College held the «Hunting Hedgehogs» business game as part of its Lean
College Project to identify shortcomings in the school’s continuing vocational training programmes.
Social Partnership: Outlook and Strategies
Novosibirsk hosted a foresight session «Strategy for developing social partnership in vocational healthcare
training in the age of innovation.» Lyudmila Gololobova, president of the Novosibirsk Professional
Association of Nursing Specialists attended the event.
Bashkortostan: World TB Day
World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is observed on March 24 each year. Polyclinic No. 2 of City Hospital No.1
in Oktyabrsky, Bashkortostan, hosted a series of events to raise awareness of TB and ways to prevent it.
New Aspects of Oncology Nursing Practice
An All-Russian Conference «New Aspects of Oncology Nursing Practice» held in Samara discussed the
current experience and future prospects of outpatient cancer care centres, centralised pain relief services,
specifics of nursing care in pediatric oncology, and patient communication strategies.
Current Approaches to Training Oncology Nurses
Chief and senior nurses, and nurses of cancer and palliative care wards attended the «Nursing Care in
Oncology» advanced training program co-organised by the International Medical Cluster Foundation and
Ben Gurion University (Beer Sheva, Israel).
Specific Aspects of Surgery Block Functioning during COVID-19
An All-Russian Conference held in Samara to mark the International Day of the Operating Nurse discussed
the key aspects of surgery block functioning during the pandemic, the role of nurses in comprehensive care
of thoracic patients, management and delivery of ophthalmic surgery, and other matters.

Simulation-based Training for Continuing Professional Development
In an effort to help nurses maintain and build their skills and competences, the Transbaikal Regional
Organisation of Medical Professionals offers simulation-based training sessions to complement hands-on
clinical training.

Assessing Physical Disfunction in Patients with Post-coronavirus Disease
Research conducted by the FMBA’s St. Petersburg Centre for Postgraduate Medical Training used data
from former coronavirus patients’ self-assessment of their health and quality of life to determine the best
