Nurses Shortage Growing
According to statistics provided by Tatiana Semyonova, Director of Medical Training and HR
a Department of the Russian Ministry of Health, the country’s outpatient care facilities experience
shortage of nurses estimated at more than 130,000 and growing. The average staffing ratio of 25
patients per one nurse is five times the WHO standard.

Patient-centered Care in Pediatric Hospital
Some 80% of conflicts and lawsuits against healthcare providers in Russia are believed to be due to
medical workers’ poor communication skills. In response, the Perinatal Centre of City Clinical Hospital
No. 24 has provided effective communication and conflict resolution training to some of its nurses,
which has significantly reduced the number of complaints against them.
