Показано, что применение хелатных микроудобрений значительно изменяло качество растениеводческой продукции: в зерне злаковых культур повышается содержание белка, в картофеле - крахмала, в корнеплодах столовой свеклы и моркови снижается количество нитратов. Оптимизируя питание растений можно не только повышать качество урожая, но и существенно снизить риск накопления загрязняющих веществ.

В монографии приводится краткое изложение состояния земледелия на современном этапе его развития в условиях рыночных отношений. Проведенный анализ показывает, что происходит снижение площади пахотной земли. Большие площади пахотнопригодной земли находятся в заброшенном состоянии и зарастают травянистой высокостебельной растительностью и мелколесьем. Структура посевных площадей также изменилась в сторону значительного увеличения доли зерновых культур и снижения площадей возделывания пропашных кормовых культур, многолетних и однолетних трав. В то же время очень велика доля чистых паров – в некоторых сельскохозяйственных предприятиях они занимают почти 1/3 часть пашни. В создавшихся условиях повсеместно во всех типах почв Орловской области наблюдается снижение содержания гумуса - наиболее важной органической их части. В книге приводятся результаты собственных исследований авторов, позволяющие улучшить основные показатели плодородия за счет использования биологических способов – применения щадящей обработки почвы, внесения в почву побочной продукции, возделывания сидеральных культур в промежуточных посевах.

На примере опытных данных с озимой пшеницей, сорго, кукурузой проведена оценка соответствия агрохимических показателей плодородия почв требованиям выращиваемых культур.
