Аннотация	Heart failure ( HF) remains one of the leading causes of hospitalization and mortality worldwide. Current clinical guidelines consider natriuretic peptides to be an essential tool for the diagnosis of HF and for assessing the risk of adverse outcomes [ 1] . For practicing clinicians, prognostic information that is rapidly obtainable, cost- eff ective, and reproducible is of particular value, especially when applicable not only in randomized controlled trials but also in everyday clinical care involving elderly patients and those with multiple comorbidities [ 2] . The N- terminal fragment of pro–B- type natriuretic peptide ( NT- proBNP) refl ects neurohormonal activation and hemodynamic stress on the myocardium. Its concentration increases in response to elevated cardiac fi lling pressures and myocardial wall stretch.
