Voprosy onomastiki (Problems of Onomastics) publishes original research papers on all aspects of onomastics: theory
of proper names and methods of onomastics; lexicography of proper names (presentation of old and new dictionaries);
source studies in onomastics; functioning of proper names in different contexts: in dialects and popular language, in
folklore and literature, in scienti c and administrative discourses; historical studies of anthroponyms and toponyms
(including the study of substrate toponymy); onomastics as a crossroad of different disciplines (history, archaeology,
ethnology, geography, anthropology, ethnolinguistics, etymology, regional studies, etc.); methods of documentary
eldwork and data processing in onomastics. Preference is generally given to the onomastics of the Slavic, FinnoUgric,
Romance, Germanic, Baltic, Celtic, Turkic and Iranian languages. The journal publishes papers in the Russian,
English, German, and French languages.
The journal operates on a no-fee open access basis: the journal does not charge any publication fees, all publications
are freely available to the reader on the journal’s website immediately after publication.
