АннотацияObjective. To compare brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels in women and men with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in relation to one-year outcome Materials and methods. 223 patients with STEMI including 167 males (74.88%) and 56 females (25.11%) were enrolled in the study. The mean age of female subjects was 61.80 (57; 68) years and the mean age of male subjects was 57.15 (51; 63) years (р=0.00). NT-proBNP serum concentrations were measured at days 10–14 by means of ELISA using BIOMEDICA GRUPPE test system. The rates of recurrent myocardial infarction, unstable angina, arrhythmias, decompensated congestive heart failure, cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) and death were assessed after 12 months of follow-up. Result. When assessing one-year outcome, it was found that vascular events were signifi cantly more frequent in women [24 (47.05%) cases as compared to 47 (33.09%) in men, р=0.001]. NT-proB- NP levels [96.34 (44.09; 128.50) fmol/mL] were signifi cantly higher in men with poor outcome than in men with favorable outcome [63.80 (24.20; 79.24) fmol/mL], р=0.0108. No similar dif efrences were found in women. Conclusion. There are no signifi cant dif efrences in NT-proBNР concentrations in men and women with STEMI. Older men (≥65) with unfavorable outcome have the highest plasma NTproBNP levels 12 months after STEMI.
