Целью пособия является развитие навыков аудиторной и самостоятельной работы, а так же навыков устной и письменной речи на английском языке. Пособие состоит из 5 модулей. Каждый модуль включает методические рекомендации для студентов по выполнению заданий и состоит из 3 разделов (Units), в котором предлагается по ряду заданий (Exercises). В конце каждого раздела (unit) есть список слов и терминов по модулю (Vocabulary) для запоминания и задания на самостоятельную работу (Self-study tasks). Учебное пособие так же включает раздел Supplementary Reading с текстами для дополнительного чтения по темам модуля.

Exploring the edge condition of São Paulo, Justin McGuirk analyses the different forms of dwelling available to its would-be citizens, and meets some of the people carving a life for themselves on the verge of this unforgiving metropolis. Driving anti-clockwise, we take a journey backwards in time, moving from cardboard favelas and hastily built tower blocks back to modernist social housing and the factory town built early in the last century. Is this a tale, as the Brazilian flag attests, of «order and progress»? Are the citizens of the periphery better off looking after themselves than in the hands of developers and the paternalistic state? Part road trip and part urban critique, this drive-by portrait makes the case that the city is best understood not by its centre but by its edge.

This article is based of analysis an extensive array of historical documents, scientific literature and journalism, in particular the diocesan press of the XIX - early XX century, on the assessment of the ethnopolitical landscape of the Arkhangelsk province at the turn of the century.The authors focus their attention on the historical, social, religious and legal prerequisites for the formation of the ethnopolitical landscape of the Arkhangelsk Governorate, which was home to four imperial “inorodtsy” ethnic groups: the Saami, the Karelians, the Nenets and the Komi.The authors, on the basis of the official press of the local diocese, represent the theoretical concept of the involvement of “inorodtsy” in the general socio-cultural and internal political space of the Empire. The article analyzes the way of life of the indigenous population, mode of life, customs, social stratification, ethnocultural specifics, worldview and religious and other characteristics, as well as interaction with the Russian (Slavic) population, officials and church apparatus. The localization of the research component on one of the largest historical territories of the Russian North and the Russian Arctic makes it possible to examine more narrowly and in detail the provincial ethno-cultural specifics. The retrospective analysis allows looking at the ethnopolitics of modern Russia taking into account regional specialization.The ethno-cultural issues considered in the article are of fundamental importance in connection with the socio-political and historical-legal discussion on the issue of the cultural collective rights of small ethnic groups: indigenous peoples and national minorities.Particular attention is paid to the historical experience of the work of the Orthodox clergy to “incorporate” local ethnic groups into the all-Russian spiritual space in order to promote the territorial and cultural unity of Imperial Russia.

Книга посвящена мало изученной в мировой историографии проблеме - как ориентировался в пространстве человек в архаических культурах, какое значение в этой ориентации имели особенности строения его тела, устройство Земли и движение небесных светил, в первую очередь Солнца и Луны, как устанавливались астрономические ориентиры стран света, какую роль играла ориентация по странам света в сакральной и профан ной жизни общества (ориентация городов, храмов, дворцов, жилищ, погребений, культовых действий, географических карт и т. д.) Исследование проведено на материале практически всех архаических культур Евразии - от Китая до Рима и от древних кельтов до монголов - с использованием всех видов источников: лингвистических, литературных, археологических, иконографических, этнографических и др. Антропологический взгляд на природу пространственной ориентации человека позволяет выявить универсальные категории в постижении пространства и вплотную подойти к пониманию наиболее общих архетипов сознания homo sapiens.
