Аннотация	The article provides historical information on the role of elastic layers in the construction of a railway track in the fight against the intensive accumulation of residual deformations by the ballast layer, the results of measuring the parameters of the stress- strain state of the track are presented, an assessment is given of the change in the stress- strain state of the track with under sleeper pads relative to a typical structure outside the zone of mechanical and welded joints, in conclusion, a hypothesis about the effectiveness of the under sleeper pads.
